Hellen Systems and Arqiva Announce Partnership to Develop Commercial eLoran Service in the UK
Chronos Technology forms part of the industry leading team in eLoran technology
Hellen Systems and Arqiva have announced their partnership to develop a commercial eLoran service in the UK as a sovereign, independent, resilient alternative solution for position, navigation and timing (PNT) services. Hellen Systems, a global leader in eLoran technology, and Arqiva, a leading UK communications infrastructure and media services company are excited to work together to make a commercial UK eLoran service a reality.
Delivering a World Class eLoran Service
To deliver a world class eLoran service, Hellen Systems and Arqiva have teamed with industry leaders in eLoran technology, user equipment and services. They include Microchip Technology Inc, global leaders in clock and timing solutions; Continental Electronics Corp. who have decades of low frequency and eLoran transmitter experience Chronos Technology Ltd., international experts in timing and eLoran technologies, and CGI Inc., IT and business consulting company with expertise in PNT and System integration.
Through extensive experience in PNT, commercial networks, aerospace, and defence, the Hellen Systems team recognise the world’s enormous reliance on and increasing vulnerability to Global Positioning System (GPS) and Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). Funded entirely by the private sector, eLoran, with its high power, low frequency, protected signals will deliver reliable, secure and cost effective PNT services to critical national infrastructure (CNI), government, military and commercial users across the UK.
“This partnership creates a team that is all around best-in-class and ready to embark on our commercial eLoran service in the UK,” said Hellen Systems Co-Founder and President, Bridge Littleton. “eLoran is a technology which we have extensively tested with the US Departments of Defence and Transportation, and we are excited to get started in the UK. We look forward to working with the CNI sectors, Government and others on how eLoran will help improve their resilience to GPS/GNSS disruptions and provide a foundational and secure technology for the future.”
Arqiva CEO Shuja Khan said “Arqiva has over a century’s experience of building and delivering critical national services to the nation. From long wave radio to smart metering – operating resilient infrastructure for the UK is our thing. Which is why we are excited to announce this partnership with Hellen Systems to develop an innovative eLoran service. We look forward to playing our part in protecting critical services and ensuring citizens, businesses and the UK government can go about their activities without missing a beat.”In 2022, Hellen Systems worked with Ofcom to develop the world’s first commercial eLoran license, which was released in late 2023. Earlier this year, Hellen Systems applied for and was granted its UK eLoran spectrum license for commercial eLoran.
