Power Networks Demonstration Centre (PNDC)

The Power Networks Demonstration Centre is a venture founded by government, industrial and academic partners with the aim of accelerating the adoption of innovative research and technologies from early stage research into business as usual adoption by the electricity industry. Building the next generation of energy networks requires collaboration and the PNDC connects stakeholders through every stage of the innovation process. The unique facility enables highly realistic and accelerated technology testing alongside a rich portfolio of research programmes across the full Smart Grid domain.

Timing and synchronisation between power plants and sub-stations is a key requirement in today’s Smart Grid. The ability to measure time in increments as small as a nanosecond is vital for efficient monitoring, phasor measurement, sampled values, resiliency and control of power plants and sub-stations to maintain safety and ensure continuity of supply. Chronos is taking an active role in helping to transform the electricity grid to meet the complexities and demands of current and future generation and consumption via our membership of PNDC’s world class facility.
